Street families, men, women and children who live in the streets of our towns and cities first appeared
in the mid 1970’s. Then little children, mostly boys, who for one reason or another could not live with their parents, survived on begging and scavenging in the garbage heaps near markets and hotels. For many years we watched these children grow and we did nothing to stem the tide. Today, the one time street children have grown up, married among themselves and brought forth a generation of street children in the real sense of the word. Their numbers have risen drastically and their methods of survival have become a threat to the security of other people.
